Yanbu [also spelled Yenbo] is located in western Saudi
Arabia on the Red Sea north of Jeddah. Yanbu Commercial Port
is located on the East coast of Red Sea approximately 460
nautical miles South of Suez Canal and 168 nautical miles
North-West of Jeddah. It is a natural harbor sheltered by
the mainland to the North and East and by coral reefs to the
South and South-East. It is reached by a mile long channel.
Yanbu serves as Saudi Arabia's second Red Sea port, after
Jeddah, and is the main port for Medina, 100 miles (160 km) east. |

| The economy of Yanbu was traditionally based
on the pilgrim trade and the export of agricultural
products, especially dates. Its harbour is being enlarged
and improved to ease the pressure on Jeddah, and the city is
one terminus of three pipelines built in the 1980s for the
delivery of petroleum and petroleum products to a major
petrochemical complex at Yanbu. The town has a small
airfield and roads extending along the coast and eastward to
Medina. |
